Lucky number 13 comes to us by way of Dean who likes his beer to have a little character. He chose some Stranahan’s Whiskey soaked Hungarian wood and conditioned Cache la Porter on it. The wood tannins aren’t overpowering and balance well with the bourbon nose and chocolate undertones of the porter. This is a really flavorful addition to the outlaw contest. Tapping is at noon, Thursday 5/17 and available until it is gone.

Chad is the 12th entry to the Outlaw Contest as we begin the final stretch. He has decided to go with some complexity and make a rhubarb, roasted sirrano pepper, pineapple, Kölsch he calls “S to the T to the double S.” He stated that it was hard to get the different flavors to come out just right but after much trial and error, he finally got a combination that worked well. There seems to be a sense of pride coming from this one as the hurdles were achieved and what was left was a great tasting beer with some subtle flavors that play nicely together. A sweet, tart, spicy, smoky beer. So come in to try this one of a kind creation. Tapping at noon, Thursday 5/10 and available until it is gone.

Franklin likes his beer hot. But not just from one pepper. Oh, no. Not this time. Franklinstein is made with 4 peppers inlcuding Habenero, Jalepeno, Sirrano, and Anaheim. This montage of peppers will not only add some heat but will be a wonderful blend of flavor to add to a rye pale ale base. Still, he made it refreshing enough for a few pints! Tapping at noon Thursday, 5/3 and available until it’s gone so get on in here. The heat is on!

Alyse is gonna add a little spice to the competition (literally). Chilis will be used to spice up the beer just enough to play well with the sweet mango fruit in her Outlaw beer for entry #10 in the Staff Outlaw Contest. You need to come try this concoction by Alyse and see how the sweet and spicy flavors work so well together to still give you a refreshing beer that you will have to order again. The past few Outlaws have kicked early but you can risk it and see if it’s still around on Saturday or gone before the whistle blows at the gravel pit the day it taps. Tapping at noon Thursday, 4/26 and available until it’s gone, so hurry in!

Pam has decided she is skipping steps and pulling straight from the fermenter for entry #8 in our Outlaw Contest (OK, not really, but it would have been fun). She has created a down south version of our Kölsch that is reminiscent of peach cobbler. She named it Georgia on My Mind and it has the characeristics of some Southern comfort food. The peach flavor dominates but then is rounded out with cinnamon and ginger for a smoothe palate sensation and quaffable drink. Available at noon, Thursday4/12/2012 until it’s gone. Get in here fast as the last one kicked at 5:04pm. That is the time to beat.

It’s Lindsey’s turn for the Outlaw Contest this week and she has made a unique beer for sure. In a fit of frustration, she took out a cigar box with her bare hands. But as she doesn’t like to waste anything, she threw it in some beer. But there was an element missing in the flavor, so she added some chinook hops and the resulting beer was cedar cigar box, dry-hopped Best Bitter. If you want to give this one a try, hurry in as it will be only be available at noon, Thursday 3/22/2012 until it’s gone.

Geoff, the Outlaw master, has been keeping a beer secret. He decided to pull it out of the loft for the public because of its spring like flavor and color to match the season. It’s spring break, but there is no break for the Outlaw. Although this is not part of the staff contest, it is a sure to win awards. With Szechuan pepper, grains of paradise, and a green tint, this pale ale is quite the hit for the season. It really goes down smooth and the citrus flavors play nicely for an opening to the spring season. He calls it Stalwart Ale. A tribute to the CSU Rams making the NCAA tournament, the opening to Spring, and for the upcoming St. Patrick’s Day holiday, Stalwart Ale will be available for $5 per glass. Tapping at noon, Thursday 3/15/2012 and available until it’s gone.
